Thin‐walled shell structures made of textile‐reinforced concrete

Abstract: Further, textile reinforced concrete has been successfully used in many cases as a retrofitting system for existing steel reinforced concrete structures, such as in the renovation of a heritage-listed barrel-shaped roof [9]. A detailed review of applications of textile-reinforced concrete recently carried out in Germany is given in [10].The present paper describes in detail the structural design and construction of a pavilion with an ambitious roof structure made of textile-reinforced concrete recently built o… Show more

“…Furthermore, as the direction of the principal stresses calculated from the stress resultants might also vary for the top and bottom surfaces of a TRC shell, the assessment procedure described is performed for both sides. In order to demonstrate the design procedure described, the following section shows the ultimate limit state assessment of the TCR shell structure actually built (described in [12]). …”

“…Application of this type of reinforcement increases the durability of the composite material compared to steel reinforced concrete and extends the range of its applicability in construction. Recently, TRC has been used for construction of large scale, thin-walled shells [1,2], sandwich wall or slab panels [3], facade elements [4] and pedestrian bridges [5]. Focus of this paper is restricted to thin-walled TRC shell structures uniformly reinforced with textile fabrics.…”
