Abstract: The magnetotail current sheet's (CSs) spatial configuration and stability control the onset of magnetic reconnection ‐ the driving process for magnetospheric substorms. The near‐Earth CS has been thoroughly investigated by numerous missions, whereas the midtail CS has not been adequately explored.
