Thick shell regime in the chameleon two-body problem

Abstract: In a previous paper [1] we pointed out some shortcomings of the standard approach to chameleon theories consisting in treating the small bodies used to test the Weak Equivalence Principle (WEP) as test particles, whose presence do not modify the chameleon field configuration. In that paper we developed an alternative method to determine the relevant field configuration which takes into account the influence of both test and source bodies, and computed the chamaleon mediated force.Relying on that analysis we sh… Show more

“…It has been addressed in various ways in the literature. Analytic models suffer from the non-linearities of the chameleon equation; to overcome them, the Klein-Gordon equation is often approximated by neglecting some terms or by linearizing the chameleon potential [16,21,[25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32]. Numerical models [22,[33][34][35][36] suffer from the limited resources they have, leading to solving the equation in a bounded region, setting the boundary conditions at a finite distance or neglecting some short-scale variations of the field.…”

“…Cuando el parámetro de thin-shell es aproximadamente uno o mayor, el desarrollo dado por la Ec. 2.89 ya no es una buena aproximación para el potencial efectivo y el régimen que describe el comportamiento en este caso es el llamado régimen de thick-shell o capa gruesa (Khoury & Weltman, 2004;Kraiselburd et al, 2019Kraiselburd et al, , 2018.…”
