This is an exploration of historical, political, and psychological processes that enable Donald Trump to attain and remain a powerful political force in the United States and maintain the allegiance of so many adherents, even while his unethical and illegal acts are in public view. Using a hermeneutic, cultural history approach, I employ insights drawn from historical sources, social psychology, pop culture, and studies about religious cults. The effort is to understand not only the psychological experience of Trump's followers but also something about the psychological life of all Americans, and by doing so sketch out in broad terms the current 21st-century self and the cultural terrain that brought this new self to light. Public Significance StatementDomestically and internationally, far-right authoritarianism is on the rise. A populist movement led by Donald Trump has gained a large following that threatens democratic institutions. This interdisciplinary study explores how and why followers join Trump's movement and suggests a solution. Resentment, historical antecedents, identity issues, and the use of electronic media contributed to a new way of being that enables the rise of Trump's populism.

In the late 18th century, Immanuel Kant attracted attention for his criticisms of colonialism, that problematized the established boundaries between civilization and barbarism, and chastised English colonialism in particular. Some years later, however, in his lectures on Anthropology, he ventured some oddly racist views, concerning the specific differences between European and Indigenous peoples. Kant's racism is by now well‐documented. However, less attention has been paid to the peculiarities of that racism, and especially its foundations in a theory of virtue. His racism comes to light especially in his discussions of the virtues of patience and courage, and in passages which have rarely been subject to critical scrutiny still to this day. This article starts out from an analysis of the functions of Kant's concepts of courage and patience in his account of European versus Indigenous difference, with a view to interrogating the politics of virtue in the present, where this discussion is reoccurring in new guises. What Kant considered courage has now been devalorized, while what he considered patience is now valorized. This reversal of perspectives on what counts as virtuous has occurred in correlation with a reversal in western perspectives on Indigeneity. Such that contemporary accounts of courage are correlated with contemporary accounts of Indigeneity. These reversals of perspective must be understood in context of the transformation which philosophical anthropology has undergone under the duress of the Anthropocene. Contemporary works by Dipesh Chakrabarty and Jonathan Lear are of great relevance to this correlated transformation and will be discussed here. The article analyses what both Chakrabarty and Lear understand by courage today, its relevance to the Anthropocene, and points out the limitations of their theories. Ultimately the article argues for a rethinking of the definition of courage as a political virtue of the Anthropocenic present.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in Jordan has brought terrifying effects on hospital management performance worldwide. The ultimate purpose is to generate empirical knowledge and open research opportunities into future studies. Investigating critical resourcebased factors would significantly contribute to the growing body of knowledge that informs policies and programs for mitigating the negative effects of the pandemic on the administration of Jordan's healthcare sector. To this end, we surveyed a sample of 418 managers in the Jordanian health sector. To produce numeric data and to test the hypotheses, the researchers employed structural equation modeling, specifically using the PLS-SEM technique. This study argues that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound negative impact on hospital performance in Jordan. Telemedicine, innovation, and infrastructure exhibit a significant and positive direct influence on management performance. As a result, this study accepts two hypotheses pertaining to the moderating influence of telemedicine and infrastructure in mitigating the negative consequences of COVID-19 on performance. However, the hypothesis related to the moderating role of innovation in the impact of COVID-19 on performance is rejected. The pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges to the healthcare sector, necessitating the development of effective management strategies to address the surge in patient volume and resource constraints. Telemedicine and healthcare infrastructure have been identified as critical resources with a significant moderating effect on healthcare management performance during this crisis. Telemedicine, as a technology-related resource, enables remote healthcare delivery, virtual consultations, and monitoring, which have become crucial during the pandemic.
