Thermotropic liquid crystalline properties of semiperfluoroalkyloxyphenyl and perfluoroalkylphenyl beta-D-glucopyranosides

Abstract

The synthesis of two series of semiper¯uoroalkyloxyphenyl and per¯uoroalkylphenyl b-d-glucopyranosides is described. Their mesomorphic properties are studied by DSC, polarized optical microscopy and X-ray di raction. All mesophases are identi® ed as smectic A with a bimolecular in-layer arrangement.
