Thermosetting resin compositions based on novolac and modified novolac

Abstract: Novel formaldehyde novolac resins at various molar ratios of monomers (4,4 -methylenedianiline/ p-nonylphenol/ p-formaldehyde) were synthesized in the presence of an acid catalyst. The obtained resins were characterized by using elemental analysis, FT IR, and 1 H NMR spectroscopic methods. Subsequently, these resins may further be modified by allylation and methacrylation and may be used as cross-linking agents for epoxy resin/bismaleimide resin formulations. The curing of epoxy and bismaleimide resins with fo… Show more

“…The energies of cross-linking reactions obtained from DSC thermograms are situated in the range 45− 74 kJ•mol −1 and are in good agreement with literature data. 8,34 The thermal degradation characterization was investigated by means of thermokinetic analysis. The dependence of the activation energy of the degradation process versus the conversion degree for the cross-linked products, calculated by FRD and FOW methods, indicates that the process is complex and is divided into several stages.…”

“…The research field of PF resins is nowadays divided into two streams. The first one is interested in improving specific properties through the incorporation of different organic or inorganic species [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]. The second one is focused on moving from phenol and formaldehyde to biodegradable or environmentally friendly raw materials [ 5 , 6 , 7 ].…”

“…Therefore, mineral fillers can be used to lower the dielectric loss of polymeric materials in order to be applied as dielectric materials. Low-cost polymer/mineral fillers composites have been reported to be used for various applications [9,10].…”
