Thermoreversible gelation polymer induces the emergence of hepatic stem cells in the partially injured rat liver

Abstract: Focal injury of the adult liver causes formation of granulomatous tissue and fibrosis. When thermoreversible gelation polymer (TGP) was applied to such defects of the rat liver, complete recovery of hepatic tissues was observed without granulation. We analyzed the mechanism of the regeneration. TGP is a chemically synthesized biocompatible polymer material whose sol-gel transition is reversible by changing the temperature. Cooled TGP was poured into a penetration lesion of the rat liver. Immunohistochemistry a… Show more

“…9 days after the spinal cord injury, the spinal cord was reopened at the injury area. were covered with thermo-reversible gelation polymer which had the reversible sol-gel process by temperature 15,16) to retain the injected neurons. The polymer was then covered with a cement protector, and then muscle layers were sutured.…”

“…Deletion of Ddb1 also led to a blockade of hepatocyte proliferation, which was partially due to accumulation of p21. It is also worth noting that thermoreversible gelation polymer, a synthetic material that polymerizes when exposed to temperatures above a defined threshold, induced ductular reactions when injected directly into normal rat liver (Nagaya, Kubota, Suzuki, Akashi, & Mitaka, 2006). This suggests that ECM can provide cues for activation of the HPC compartment.…”

“…Nagaya et al reported the use of TGP for regeneration of focal liver injury. 22 In their study, TGP induced efficient regeneration of hepatocytes by reducing the fibrosis and enhancing proliferation. Sudha et al showed the growth of human cadaver corneal limbal epithelial cells cultured in TGP, and they showed that the cells expressed both the limbal and corneal phenotype.…”
