Thermography in ergonomic assessment: a study of wood processing industry workers

Abstract: Background Workers in the wood processing industry perform activities that demand great physical and ergonomic demands, which favors the emergence of inflammatory processes and in turn the occurrence of heat regions in the body, thus making it possible to assess the inflammatory level by means of temperature gradients. This study aimed to evaluate the use of thermography as an ergonomic analysis tool to identify regions with musculoskeletal overload in workers in a wood processing industry. … Show more

“…Prolonged sitting poses a potential health risk to the musculoskeletal system of employees [ 26 ]. By monitoring changes in skin temperature across working muscles, IRT can help identify potential ergonomic risks and areas for improvement within the work environment [ 27 ]. While IRT provides an indirect measure of the thermal radiation of the body, it offers valuable insights into how the workplace impacts the body and potential areas of overload.…”

“…The authors [ 16 ] highlight that studying the influence of forest fires and their spatiotemporal trends, associated with climatic factors, is extremely relevant for the conservation of biological and water resources in the Amazon Forest, especially in the state of Pará, where the highest values of deforestation of the Legal Amazon. Furthermore, fires can change the local microclimate, affecting the health of forestry workers in these regions [ 17 , 18 ].…”

“…In this system, trees are felled using self-propelled forest machines called feller bunchers. Then, the wood is extracted from inside the stands to the edges of forest roads with the self-propelled forestry machine grapple skidder and, finally, the wood is processed by the grapple saw [1][2][3][4].…”
