Thermoelectric properties of the textured Bi1.9Gd0.1Te3 compounds spark-plasma-sintered at various temperatures

Abstract: Elemental composition, crystal and grain structures, specific electrical resistivity, Seebeck coefficient, thermal conductivity, and thermoelectric figure-of-merit of n-type grained Bi 1.9 Gd 0.1 Te 3 compounds, spark-plasma-sintered at T S = 690, 720, 750, 780 and 810 K, have been studied. All the samples are highly textured along the 001 direction parallel to the pressing direction. The average grain size measured along the pressing direction is much less as compared to the average grain size measured in the… Show more

“…Before analyzing the grain size effect on the electrical resistivity of the textured Bi 1.9 Gd 0.1 Te 3 compounds, it would be helpful to briefly consider main features of these compounds reported earlier in Ref. [11]. XRD pattern for the starting Bi 1.9 Gd 0.1 Te 3 powder is shown in Fig.…”

“…Synthesis conditions were reported in detail in Ref. [11,26]. Spark plasma sintering method by using a SPS-25/10 system was applied to compact the starting powder at pressure of 40 MPa and sintering time of 150 s resulting in the Ø20 mm × 15 mm cylinders.…”
