Abstract:In this paper we derive a class of thermodynamically consistent diffuse-interface mixture models of incompressible multicomponent fluids. The class of mixture models is fully compatible with the continuum theory of mixtures. The resulting mixture models may be formulated either in constituent or in mixture quantities. This permits a direct comparison with the Navier-Stokes Cahn-Hilliard model with non-matching densities, which reveals the key modeling simplifications of the latter.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
