Thermodynamic, Raman and electrical switching studies on Si15Te85-xAgx (4 ≤ x ≤ 20) glasses

Abstract: We have investigated thermal properties of bulk Si15Te85-xAgx (4 ≤ x ≤ 20) glasses in detail, through alternating differential scanning calorimetry experiments. The composition dependence of thermal parameters reveal the signatures of rigidity percolation and chemical threshold at compositions x = 12 and x = 19, respectively. The stability and glass forming ability of these glasses have also been determined using the data obtained from different thermodynamic quantities and it is found that the Si15Te85-xAgx g… Show more

“…38 As a result, the quantity ∆T = T x − T g reveals a measure of thermal stability of glasses, and a maximum indicates an indirect signature of the "optimal glass" as exemplified for various chalcogenide glasses. [39][40][41][42] So, our data point towards the transition from flexible to rigid glasses to occur at a composition of ∼22 at. % Ge in the Ge-Te system.…”

“…ChGS exhibit a number of attractive characteristics over the silica glasses like good chemical durability, high transparency in IR region of the spectra [2], high photosensitivity as well as refractive index due to second or third order non linear dispersion [3] and the low glass transition temperature [4,5]. Due to these qualities, Selenium rich ChGS have extensive range of applications in photonic devices, switching, reversible optical recording, wave guide, xerography and infrared biosensors [6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. These glasses are used as gas sensors too for determination of the concentration of different gases like nitric oxide, carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide etc.…”
