Thermodynamic Modeling of Apparent Molal Volumes of Metal Nitrate Salts with Pitzer Model

Abstract: The apparent molal volumes of selected metal nitrate salts, Al(NO 3 ) 3 , Fe(NO 3 ) 3 , and Mn(NO 3 ) 2 , in water have been assessed from the available density measurements of their aqueous solutions at 25 °C over a wide molality range. The values of ϕ V have been fitted to the Pitzer model using its volumetric contributions. The model parameters β (0)V , β (1)V , C φV , and V̅ 0 were determined for each aqueous electrolyte, over the composition range from 0 to about 3.5 mol•kg −1 H 2 O. The new experimental … Show more

“…For validation, the density and viscosity of ethanol + water were measured and compared to literature values of several authors. Additionally, the density data of solutions of INN in water at 298.15 K of Arrad et al were compared to the data of this work. The results of these comparisons are presented in the Supporting Information.…”

“…Despite the high interest in the spray flame synthesis of nanoparticles from INN solutions, thermophysical data are only available for the pure solvents and the salt-free solvent mixture of ethanol and water but are scarce for solutions of INN. There are only two papers in the literature that report the density of aqueous solutions of INN. , To the best of our knowledge, no information is available on ethanolic INN solutions.…”

“…10 Consequently, as the next primary alcohol in the homologous series, solutions with 1-propanol are investigated here, which are also of interest for spray flame synthesis. 6 To the best of our knowledge, no information on the thermophysical properties of these solutions is available in the literature, except for the specific density of aqueous INN solutions, 12 which is already discussed in our previous work. 10 In contrast, plenty of data have been reported for mixtures of 1-propanol and water (without INN).…”
