Thermodynamic Cycle Concepts for High-Efficiency Power Plans. Part A: Public Power Plants 60+

Abstract: An analysis was carried out for different thermodynamic cycles of power plants with air turbines. Variants with regeneration and different cogeneration systems were considered. In the paper, we propose a new modification of a gas turbine cycle with the combustion chamber at the turbine outlet. A special air by-pass system of the combustor was applied and, in this way, the efficiency of the turbine cycle was increased by a few points. The proposed cycle equipped with a regenerator can provide higher efficiency … Show more

“…Experimentally confirmed intensification of heat transfer on the air side makes the proposed minijets heat exchanger application more attractive, for the waste heat utilization systems from gas sources (especially low-temperature carriers). In addition, the compactness of the design makes this heat exchanger an ideal proposal for micro-CHP (for example as the regenerator for high-efficiency air turbine cycles [34,35]).…”

“…The electricity used is known as final energy [73,74]. A particular amount of primary energy, i.e., energy contained in sources or energy carriers (e.g., in fuels combusted in a power plant), is needed for its production and delivery [75,76].…”

“…Thus, a gas turbine engine is modified to work as an air turbine which consists, in the simplest arrangement, of a compressor, a heat exchanger and a turbine. Air is a working medium for both the compressor as well as the turbine [19,20]. This solution allows us to burn fuels of varying parameters in the external combustion chamber without any harmful effects on the operation of the air turbine set.…”
