The versatile features of pure ionic liquids (ILs) can be considerably fine-tuned through mixing with suitable cosolvents, thereby expanding their role as potential green solvents to replace the traditional volatile organic solvents in several industrial processes. In the present work, the excess molar volume (V m E ), excess molar isentropic compressibility (K s,m E ), and deviation in refractive index (Δ φ n D ) have been determined from the measurement of density (ρ), speed of sound (u), and refractive index (n D ) by mixing imidazolium-based ILs: 1-methyl-3-alkyl imidazolium tetraflouroborate (alkyl = butyl, hexyl, and octyl) with aniline (AN) over an entire range of compositions and at temperatures ranging from 293.15 to 323.15 K at 5 K intervals and at atmospheric pressure. The magnitude of the negative V m E and K s,m E increases absolutely as the temperature increases. Ion−dipole interactions and structural factors of the components of the mixture were held responsible for their nonideal behavior and have been interpreted. The influence of the alkyl chain of ILs and temperature on the thermophysical properties of the mixtures had been studied. We have predicted refractive indices for the studied binary mixtures using several mixing rules and compared the experimental values with them through standard deviation. We further compared our excess molar volume calculated through experimental density values with the predicted values using Prigogine− Flory−Patterson theory and Extended Real Association Model.

The various volume concentrations of ionic liquid-modified graphene nanosheets filled polytetrafluoroethylene nanocomposites (IL-GNs/PTFE) for flexible conductors were fabricated via a pre-stretch processing method after cold-press sintering. The results indicated that pre-stretching has no significant weakening in the electrical conductivity of the nanocomposites, while the Young’s modulus greatly reduced by 62.5%, which is more suitable for flexible conductors. This may be because the reduced conductivity by the destructive conductive pathway cancels out the enhanced conductivity by the increased interlamellar spacing of IL-GNs via a pre-stretch processing, and the nanocomposite exhibits a phase transition from two to three-phase (with the introduction of an air phase) during pre-stretching. It was also found that the tensile strength of the nanocomposites was enhanced by 42.9% and the elongation at break and thermal conductivity decreased slightly with the same filler content after pre-stretching. The electrical conductivity of the pre-stretched nanocomposites tended to stabilize at 5.5 × 10−2 s·m−1, when the volume content of the packings achieved a percolation threshold (1.49 vol%). Meanwhile, the electrical resistivity of the pre-stretched 3.0 vol% IL-GNs/PTFE nanocomposite was slightly reduced by 0.30%, 0.38%, and 0.87% respectively after 180° twisting, 180° bending, and 10% stretching strain for 1000 cycles.

The performance of electrochemical laccase-based biosensors can be improved by immobilizing the enzyme on composite Layer-by-Layer (LbL) supports in which materials with complementary functions are combined. LbL films are formed by layers combining an electrocatalytic material which favors electron transfer (sulfonated copper phthalocyanine, CuPc S(-) ), an ionic liquid which enhances the electrical conductivity of the layers (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, IL (+) ) and a material able to promote enzyme immobilization (chitosan, CHI (+) ). Composite films with different structures have been demonstrated to be efficient electrocatalysts, producing an increase in the magnitude of the responses towards catechol. The most intense and reproducible electrocatalytic effect was observed when a layer of the CuPc S(-) was placed on top of a layer formed by a mixture of CHI (+) +IL (+) to obtain [CHI (+) +IL (+) |CuPc S(-) ] 2 films.Biosensors with laccase immobilized on the surface of the LbL layers [CHI (+) +IL (+) |CuPc S(-) ] 2 |Lac showed mediated electron transfer between the redox enzyme and the film and a reproducibility of device-to-device performance of 4.1%.The amperometric biosensor showed a sensitivity of 0.237 A•M −1 and a linear detection range from 2.4 μM to 26 μM for catechol. The excellent Limit of detection (LOD) of 8.96•10 -10 M (3•σ /m) is one order of magnitude lower than that obtained in similar studies. A Michaelis-Menten constant of 3.16 μM confirms excellent enzyme-substrate affinity.
