Abstract:Ionic liquid crystalline copolymers and their nonionic family were synthesized. The thermal and orientational properties of these ionic and nonionic families were examined. Moreover, the effects of the ionic groups for the liquid crystal formation were investigated. The nonionic liquid crystalline copolymer formed only a nematic phase with a schlieren texture. The ionic liquid crystalline copolymers exhibited only a smectic A phase due to ionic interactions between ammonium cations and counter anions. A smecti… Show more
“…[7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14] Most of the investigated ILCPs are based on rodshaped mesogens and primarily form smectic and nematic phases. [15][16][17][18][19] For example, Ujiie et al 20 investigated the synthesis of ILC copolymers via quaternary amination reactions involving nonionic counterparts and hydrobromic acid. The resulting ILC copolymers exhibited a smectic A phase, whereas the nonionic portion exclusively formed a nematic phase with a schlieren texture.…”
Ionic discotic liquid crystalline polymers (IDLCPs) are a versatile class of multifunctional polymers that exhibit electron and ion transport, luminescence, and thermal and mechanical responsiveness. In this study, we successfully...

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
