Thermal Plastic and Optical Transparent Polyimide Derived from Isophorone Diamine and Sulfhydryl Compounds

Abstract: A series of thermoplastic and optical transparent polyimide-bearing aliphatic rings were manufactured through a two-step approach. The solubility and melt processability were significantly enhanced after embedded with flexible thio-ether moieties. The complex viscosity was within 225.6–3980 Pa·s from 330 to 300 °C. The modified polyimide exhibited moderate mechanical strength to 76 MPa. The 5% thermal weight loss temperature was around 443 °C, with a glass transition temperature of 204.6–234.8 °C. Although the… Show more

“…Figure 3 compares the tensile modulus, total transmittance, and YI of CLPI-70 and CLPI-70/S-1.8 with those of previously reported optical films, including various conventional CLPIs prepared in this study. [15,[63][64][65][66][67][68][69][70][86][87][88][89][90][91][92][93] CLPI-70 has enhanced mechanical strength and optical properties compared to those of the reported optical films. Moreover, CLPI-70/S-1.8 has a tensile modulus of over 8.0 GPa, total transmittance close to 90%, and YI below 3.0.…”

“…In addition to alkyl halides, an acid chloride was applicable in this sequence to form a corresponding monomer product, 20 in 81% yield. Further treatment with hydrogen chloride after depolymerization afforded 4,4’-dimercaptobenzophenone ( 21 ) 57 . This one-pot depolymerization/functionalization method was applicable in the three-step sequence.…”

“…Polyimide foams (PIFs) have promising applications in the areas of microelectronics, aerospace, aeronautics, marine use, and transportation due to their excellent thermal insulation, vibration damping, thermal stability, and flame retardancy among others. The successful introduction of commercial products such as Solimide, TEEK, and Rexfoam has largely expanded the market for PIFs as insulation materials. As such, great efforts have been devoted to developing high-performance PIFs to suit increasing demands from the above-mentioned industrial sectors.…”
