Thermal performance analysis of Sabunkaran residential building typology

Abstract: Creating typology is a comparative method to investigate the physical or other characteristics of the built environment. It can be a useful instrument to facilitate the thermal performance assessment of existing buildings. Heat material’s resistance and construction techniques play a significant role in energy performance of buildings. It is influenced by many factors, such as ambient weather conditions, building structure, and heating, ventilation and airconditioning systems. The study was focused on … Show more

“…In this study, the thermal 3D model was generated in IDA ICE 4.8 dynamic energy and climate simulation program [11]. The boundary conditions have been set precisely due to actual condition of the building, before generating the thermal model [12], [13]. The materials specifications for instance the thermal conductivity (W/(m•K), density (kg/m 3 ) and specific heat J/(kg•K) were then assigned for the basement, external walls, internal walls and the roof.…”

“…The methodology begins with the analysis and evaluation of the energy efficiency and thermal comfort in five typical traditional houses, representing the decisive residential building typologies in Sabunkaran district, Sulaimani city. The five typologies were elaborated in a former study, preparing the following investigation (Chro, Istvan 2017). Based on the passive strategies orientation, thermal insulation, glazings, infiltration, shading, WWR and building body shape compactness (A/V-ratio) several scenarios were selected.…”

“…The orientation of the building to the sun is considered one of the earliest design decisions essential for passive heating and cooling, which plays a significant role in reducing energy consumption and increasing indoor environment (Chro, Istvan 2017). The certainty of the summer and winter sun's path, take the guess-work out of solar-appropriate design ((Hootman 2013).…”

“…To contrast, the shapes of those nine types of yurts, the orientation of the yurts were set identical, and identical climate station weather data in a whole year period was applied [7]. The floor areas are set same, albeit volume, 'top' opening, and door dimensions are different, following the shape form of the yurt.…”
