In a society with a high growth rate and increased standards of comfort arises the need to minimise the currently high-energy consumption by taking advantage of renewable energy sources. The mortars with incorporation of phase-change materials (PCM) have the ability to regulate the temperature inside buildings, contributing to the thermal comfort and reduction in the use of heating and cooling equipment, using only the energy supplied by the sun. However, the incorporation of phase-change materials in mortars modifies its characteristics. The main purpose of this study was the production and characterisation in the fresh and hardened state of mortars with incorporation of different contents of PCM in mortars based in different binders. The binders studied were aerial lime, hydraulic lime, gypsum and cement. For each type of binder, different mortars were developed with different content of PCM. The proportion of PCM studied was 0, 20, 40 and 60% of the mass of the sand. It was possible to observe that the incorporation of PCM in mortars caused differences in properties such as workability, microstructure, compressive strength, flexural strength and adhesion.

Nowadays, considering the high variety of construction products, adequate material selection, based on their properties and function, becomes increasingly important. In this research, a ranking procedure developed by Czarnecki and Lukowski is applied in mortars with incorporation of phase change materials (PCM). The ranking procedure transforms experimental results of properties into one numerical value. The products can be classified according to their individual properties or even an optimized combination of different properties. The main purpose of this study was the ranking of mortars with incorporation of different contents of PCM based in different binders. Aerial lime, hydraulic lime, gypsum and cement were the binders studied. For each binder, three different mortars were developed. Reference mortars, mortars with incorporation of 40% of PCM and mortars with incorporation of 40% of PCM and 1% of fibers, were tested. Results show that the incorporation of PCM in mortars changes their global performance. RESUMEN: Procedimiento de clasificación de morteros con incorporación de materiales de cambio de fase basado en el comportamiento mecánico, durabilidad y comportamiento térmico.Actualmente, existen varios productos de construcción, siendo importante una adecuada selección, con base en sus principales propiedades y funciones. En esta investigación se aplicó un procedimiento de clasificación desarrollado por Czarnecki y Lukowski, en morteros con incorporación de materiales de cambio de fase (PCM). Este procedimiento transforma los resultados experimentales de las propiedades en un único valor numérico. Los productos se clasifican de acuerdo con sus propiedades individuales o en una combinación optimizada de diferentes propiedades. El principal objetivo de este estudio fue la clasificación de morteros basado en los diferentes aglutinantes con incorporación de diferentes cantidades de PCM. Los aglutinantes utilizados fueran la cal aérea, cal hidráulica, yeso y cemento. Para cada aglutinante se han desarrollado tres morteros, siendo morteros de referencia, con incorporación de 40% de PCM y con incorporación de 40% de PCM y 1% de fibras. Fue observado que la incorporación de PCM en morteros cambia su comportamiento global.

RESUMOAtualmente, os elevados consumos energéticos constituem uma das maiores preocupações da sociedade e da comunidade científica. A União Europeia definiu várias estratégias para atenuar este problema até 2020, passando pela redução das emissões de CO 2 , redução do consumo de energia primária e aumento do consumo de energia proveniente de fontes renováveis. O sector da construção é responsável por elevados consumos energéticos durante a fase de construção e utilização dos edifícios. Assim, torna-se importante utilizar soluções construtivas funcionais, que minimizem os consumos energéticos nos edifícios. A incorporação de materiais de mudança de fase (PCM) em materiais de construção permite a regulação da temperatura no interior dos edifícios com recurso à sua capacidade de armazenamento e libertação de energia. Desta forma, o principal objetivo deste estudo consistiu na caracterização do desempenho térmico de argamassas com incorporação de microcápsulas de PCM e comparação com argamassas de referência (0% PCM). Para tal, foram desenvolvidas 8 composições distintas, à base de diferentes ligantes, sendo estes a cal aérea, cal hidráulica, cimento e gesso. Para cada ligante foi desenvolvida uma composição de referência (0% PCM) e uma composição com incorporação de 40% de PCM, em substituição da massa de agregado. As propriedades avaliadas foram a trabalhabilidade, microestrutura, comportamento mecânico e desempenho térmico. Foi possível observar que a utilização de microcápsulas de PCM em argamassas contribui para uma melhoria da eficiência energética dos edifícios, através da diminuição das temperaturas extremas, do desfasamento temporal das temperaturas extremas e da diminuição das necessidades de climatização dos edifícios.Palavras-chave: Argamassas, material de mudança de fase, microestrutura, comportamento térmico. ABSTRACTNowadays, the high energetic consumption is one of the biggest concerns of the modern society and scientific community. The European Union defined strategies for 2020 in order to reduce this problem, through the decrease of CO 2 emissions, decrease the primary energy consumption and increase the energy consumption from renewable sources. The construction sector is responsible for high energetic consumptions during the production and utilization of buildings. Thus, it becomes important to use constructive solutions that allow minimize the energy consumption in buildings. The incorporation of phase change materials (PCM) in construction materials allows regulate the temperature inside the buildings, due to their capability of storage and release energy.
