“…The vitrinite reflectance geothermometer has been used to detect the frictional heat both in natural fault zones (Bustin 1983;O'Hara 2004;Suchy et al 1997;Sakaguchi et al 2007;Sakaguchi et al 2011;Maekawa et al, 2014) and in laboratory experiments of shear friction (O'Hara et al 2006;Kitamura et al 2012).
