Thermal, hydrolytic, anticorrosive, and tribological properties of alkyd‐silicone hyperbranched resins with high solid content

Abstract: Novel alkyd hyperbranched resins (AHBRs) modified with a Z-6018 silicone (a polysiloxane intermediate) and with high solid content were synthesized by etherification reaction using an acid catalyst. Different molar ratios of AHBR to silicone were used. Structural, thermal, hydrolytic, anticorrosive, and tribological properties were studied using infrared (IR) analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), vapor pressure osmometry (VPO), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), acid value, electrochemical impedance spect… Show more

“…These latters (the VOCs) are toxic, responsible for global warming and climate changes, and photochemical ozone layer deterioration [1] . Some alternatives have been adopted to obtain ecofriendly materials were, among others, waterborne coatings and hyperbranched polymers with high solid content are being developed for this purposes [1][2][3][4][5][6] .…”

“…The reaction of hydroxy-ester interchange produces two structures, one cyclic and another cyclic. This reaction was shown in the synthesis of waterborne hyperbranched acrylated-maleinized alkyd resins [28], alkyd-silicone hyperbranched nanoresins with high solid contents [29] and hyperbranched polyester polyols [35].…”

“…Attempts have been made to improve the hardness, thermal stability, chemical and corrosion resistance of hyperbranched alkyd resins, these have been hybridized with others compounds, such as acrylics [25][26][27], silicones [28,29], acrylated silicon [30], and melamine-formaldehyde [31]. Moreover, phenol has been used mainly in synthesis of phenolic resins, such as resole and novolak [32].…”
