Thermal Evolution Characteristics of the Pore Structure in Coal and Its Dominant Factor Conversion

Abstract: This study analyzed the pore characteristics of coal after heat treatment under air and vacuum conditions using low-temperature gas adsorption (LTGA) measurements. The removal of moisture significantly increases the micropore and mesopore volumes and results in a reduction in surface fractal dimension D 1 and an increase in structure fractal dimension D 2 in the mesopore. Volatile emission leads to the formation of ultramicropores and has a pore-expanding effect on ultramicropores and small mesopores. The enla… Show more

“…Coal is a porous medium with simplified matrixes and a fractured network. After drilling, the stress and gas adsorption–desorption environment of the coal seam is broken. The gas will be desorbed from the matrixes into the borehole through the fractures network.…”

“…Since the fractal theory was introduced into geology, it has been widely applied and developed in geological tectonics, , mineral prospecting, pore distribution, , rock damage, and fragmentation . In addition, the self-similar linear fractal is often used to study the distribution of geological structures.…”
