Thermal Conductivity Evidence for adx2y2Pairing Symmetry in the Heavy-FermionCeIrIn5Superconductor

Abstract: The phase diagram of the quasi-2D Ce(Ir,Rh)In5 system contains two distinct superconducting domes. By the thermal transport measurements in rotating magnetic fields H, we pinned down the superconducting gap structure of CeIrIn5 in the second dome, located distant from the first dome in proximity to an antiferromagnetic quantum critical point. Clear fourfold oscillation was observed when H is rotated within the ab plane, while no oscillation was observed within the bc plane. In sharp contrast to previous report… Show more

“…Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) measurement of Cd doped CeIrIn5 suggests a valence instability contributes to the SC2 [10]. On the other hands, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and transport measurements suggest CeIrIn5 is in the vicinity of AFM QCP [11][12][13][14][15]. In order to clarify the relationship between SC and magnetic instability in CeIrIn5, we measured the electrical resistivity of Cd doped CeIrIn5 under pressure.…”

“…The significant 0 =T of Ce 2 PdIn 8 in zero field is strong evidence for nodes in the superconducting gap [34]. Further angle-dependent experiments will be able to show whether this nodal superconductivity is also d-wave, as in CeCoIn 5 [5,6], CeRhIn 5 under pressure [35], and CeIrIn 5 [36].…”

“…Subsequent superconducting penetration depth 89) as well as field-angle-dependent thermal conductivity 90) and specific heat measurements argue that the nodal topology is d-wave, specifically d x 2 Ày 2 .…”
