Thermal Conductivity Estimation Based on Well Logging

Abstract: The thermal conductivity of a stratum is a key factor to study the deep temperature distribution and the thermal structure of the basin. A huge expense of core sampling from boreholes, especially in offshore areas, makes it expensive to directly test stratum samples. Therefore, the use of well logging (the gamma-ray, the neutron porosity, and the temperature) to estimate the thermal conductivity of the samples obtained from boreholes could be a good alternative. In this study, we measured the thermal conductiv… Show more

“…The parameters of the layered porous medium are given in Table 1, they are the typical sandstone parameters. [4,16] In addition, the fluid density in the borehole is 1000 kg/m 3 , and the salinity is 0.01 Mol/L. The central frequency of the acoustic source is 10 kHz.…”

“…This is consistent with the interface response characteristics of the borehole seismoelectric coupling wave fields excited by a point acoustic source. [3][4][5] After the interface responses a-a and b-b, the electric field component c-c is the accompanying electric field of the SH wave. The electric field component d-d is the accompanying electric field of the multi-mode Love waves.…”

“…This composition together with component thermal conductivity values is then used to compute the bulk thermal conductivity assuming an appropriate mixing law (e.g. Brigaud et al, 1990;Demongodin et al, 1991;Hartmann et al, 2005;Fuchs et al, 2013;Hu et al, 2021).…”
