Thermal behavior of poly(acrylic acid)–poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and poly(acrylic acid)–metal–poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) complexes

Abstract: Thermal analysis (TGA and DTA) of samples of PAA, PVP, PAA-PVP complexes, containing different weight fractions of PAA and ternary polymer-metal-polymer complexes, were studied. The activation energy parameters for the thermal degradation were also calculated. The study of the effect of FeCl 3 , NiCl 2 , and Ni(NO 3 ) 2 on the TGA and DTA curves of the complexes showed that the decompositions are dependent on the concentrations and the nature of the metal ions. The DTA traces of PAA-PVP complex containing FeCl… Show more

“…Those peaks are attributed to fragments which results in the breakage of b-glycosidic bonds between glucosamine and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine; similar observations regarding Cs thermal degradation were reported by Lopez et al [26]. The thermal degradation of the hydrogel based on NMACs and PAA (HEA0), as TG analysis revealed, followed four stages: (1) water evaporation, (2) depolymerization of Cs and dehydration of the acid groups forming anhydride, (3) decarboxylation of maleoyl groups and decomposition of anhydrides resulting in unsaturated derivatives, and PAA chain scission [27][28][29]. “…In neat PVP samples initial weight loss nearly around 19% below 100°C revealed the hydrophilic nature of PVP. PVP also shows one step degradation process and the degradation begins at 302°C and ends at 485°C as suggested in the literature [28]. Thermal behavior of PCL blended PVP obeys the single step degradation like PCL and PVP.…”

“…40 The three weight losses observed for the PAA/Ce(NO 3 ) 3 and PAA/Ce(NO 3 ) 3 /SiO 2 fibers are consecutive to the elimination of adsorbed water, the dehydration of cerium nitrate and degradation of PAA, and the conversion of anhydrous Ce(NO 3 ) 3 to CeO 2 (at increasing temperature). 41 Since the mass of the materials remains unchanged around 600°C, the calcination temperature was fixed at this temperature.…”
