Thermal Behavior of Pinan-2-ol and Linalool

Abstract: Abstract:Linalool is an important intermediate for syntheses of isoprenoid fragrance compounds and vitamins A and E. One process option for its production is the thermal gas-phase isomerization of cis-and trans-pinan-2-ol. Investigations of this reaction were performed in a flow-type apparatus in a temperature range from 350-600 °C and a residence time range of 0.6-0.8 s. Rearrangement of the bicyclic alcohol led to linalool, plinols arising from consecutive reactions of linalool and other side products. Effec… Show more

“…Simulations were carried using the plug flow reactor model of the Chemkin 4.1 package , using the reported reactor configuration and operating conditions. In both the experiments with cis ‐ 1 and trans ‐ 1 , the feed of 1 was considered as a mixture of enantiomers, with a ratio of 63:37 for the (+)‐enantiomer relative to the (−)‐enantiomer of 1 , and originates from the reported ratio in . Flow rates of the terpene feed and diluent were taken equal to the reported values.…”

“… Maleic anhydride grafting of polyolefins, PLA, and PHAs is reported to proceed via hydrogen abstraction at tertiary carbon centers followed by free radical addition to the maleic anhydride double bond . Therefore, the first reaction to consider is that of only a single double bond of the linalool (incorporation as a side group). Concerted reaction of both double bonds in a cyclization reaction (incorporation as a cyclic side group) Separate reaction of both double bonds (cross‐linking, branching, or large loop formation). Proton abstraction from linalool hydroxyl and subsequent rearrangement.…”

“…Although the efficacy and exact mode of action of such methods are not well known, fumigants from plant materials can either be used as protectants or disinfestation methods for stored product pests [8,9]. This type of smoke or fumes may contain many volatile phytochemicals gasses and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which may be released during partial burning/heating or pyrolysis burning of plant materials [10] and some gasses. Practical application of phytochemical extracts (i.e.…”
