Thermal and thermomechanical evaluations of channel induction furnace applying strong insulation containing lightweight aggregates

Abstract: Monolithic materials with a strong thermal insulating effect are required by the foundry industry for further energy savings, meanwhile possible premature wear of refractory linings caused by overinsulation should be avoided. A monolithic insulating material containing lightweight aggregates possessed strong thermal insulation and was proposed to replace the traditional insulating material made of chamotte currently used in a channel induction furnace. To evaluate the new lining concept, creep of the working l… Show more

“…Currently, the research on energy-saving methods in forging production focuses mainly on process optimization [2][3], innovative recycling technologies [4], forging machine improvement [5][6], heating furnace reforming [7], and development of new materials [8][9]. In recent years, with the continuous advances in the field of production scheduling, some researchers have achieved the goal of energy saving by solving the scheduling problems in forging production.…”

“…13) Several numerical simulations have been carried out to reveal the typical practical thermomechanical behaviour of refractory linings present on macrostructures. 14,15) In a word, these researches proved the ability of the numerical method to investigate the thermomechanical behaviour of purging plug in service conditions.…”

“…For instance, the time hardening formula was applied to describe the creep deformation of metallurgical components, in which the creep rate is a function of time [23][24][25]. Besides, Jin et al [26] employed the Norton-Bailey strain hardening creep equation to evaluate the creep displacement of working lining, whose results indicate that the thermomechanical loads in the proposed lining concept remain within a reasonable range.…”
