Thermal and morphological studies on γ‐Fe2O3 polystyrene composites and the affect of additives

Abstract: ␥-Fe 2 O 3 polystyrene (PS) composite films were prepared by a gel-casting technique to obtain monodisperse composite films. To understand the effect of additives on the prepared composite films, additives such as rice husk ash and thiourea were made to disperse into the PS matrix. The as-prepared ␥-Fe 2 O 3 PS composite films, along with their additives, were subjected to characterization and study by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermal, IR, and dielectric measurement techniques. These st… Show more

“…Pure resin showed an amorphous halo [Figure (a)], whereas maghemite [Figure (e)] showed crystalline peaks at 2θ = 30.7°, 36.2°, 43.6°, 57.7°, and 63.2°. These crystalline peaks correspond to the (2 2 0), (3 1 1), (4 0 0), (5 1 1), and (4 4 0) reflections, respectively, of a spinel crystal structure, such as that presented by maghemite . In addition, the crystallinity degree was calculated according Ruland's method and crystal sizes were calculated using Scherer's equation (eq.…”

“…Aiming to make easier the cleanup process, the green resins can be prepared in the presence of magnetic nanoparticles based on iron oxides, which are ecologically appropriated and easily produced 4. Among magnetic nanoparticles, the maghemite is largely studied19, 20 since it possesses strong magnetic force associated with a superparamagnetic behavior 4–7. The produced materials were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), and Small‐angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS).…”

“…The magnetic polyimide hybrid thin films have attracted considerable attention. Different magnetic polyimide nanocomposites have been prepared, which show low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) and excellent mechanical property 7–13. However, the content of nanoparticles is very low in the polymer composites.…”
