Thermal and electrical properties of porphyrin derivatives and their relevance for molecule interferometry

Abstract: The authors present new measurements of thermal and electrical properties for two porphyrin derivatives. They determine their sublimation enthalpy from the temperature dependence of the effusive beam intensity. The authors study H 2 TPP and Fe͑TPP͒Cl in matter-wave interferometry. Both molecules have nearly equal de Broglie wavelengths but different internal characteristics: only Fe͑TPP͒Cl exhibits an electric dipole moment of about 2.7 D and the authors discuss its influence on the molecular interference patt… Show more

“…The new interferometer also leads to a number of applications, including tests of recent proposals on gravitational decoherence 11 or molecule metrology 10 . It is particularly interesting to note that azobenzenes and their derivatives are often used as molecular LETTERS switches, which change their conformation on absorption of a single photon 30 .…”

“…Coherence experiments with complex objects are of interest for exploring the transition to classical physics [7][8][9] , for measuring molecular properties 10 , and they have even been proposed for testing new models of space-time 11 . For matter-wave experiments with complex molecules, the strongly dispersive effect of the interaction between the diffracted molecule and the grating wall is a major challenge because it imposes enormous constraints on the velocity selection of the molecular beam 12 .…”

“…In aqueous solution at pH value of 7.40, the acid phenylsulfonic group of FeTPPS is dissociated in anionic form and H + as the value of the dissociation constant pKa is 4.8 [25]. Investigations on the acid dissociation of protonated nitrogen atoms of quinoline antimalarials in aqueous solution provided two apparent constants, pKa 1 …”

“…Porphyrins and their derivatives are well-investigated molecules because of numerous potential applications from molecular electronics, over sensors and information storage elements, to medical agents [1] [2]. Ferric porphyrins seem to play an important role as receptor of an enormous number of ligands [3] [4] [5] [6] [7].…”
