Thermal and dynamic mechanical characterization of miscanthus stem fragments: Effects of genotypes, positions along the stem and their relation with biochemical and structural characteristics

Abstract: The thermal and dynamic mechanical properties of miscanthus stem fragments and differences between genotypes and positions along the stem are studied in relation with their biochemical and structural characteristics. The starting degradation temperature does not correlate to the biochemical composition. However, the first DTG peak temperature is negatively correlated to hemicelluloses content and positively correlated to lignin and pcoumaric contents. A pronounced genotypic effect is evidenced on fragments ela… Show more

“…Also influencing the measurements are the atmosphere within the instrument, as well as the crucible or holder used for the sample. To obtain the true properties of a sample, the influence of all these parameters should be accounted for (41). If a series of different samples is to be compared, it is best to keep all the parameters identical, or as close to identical as possible.…”

“…The quality grade of the AX fraction was evaluated by measuring the yield and composition of neutral monosaccharides recovered after 2.5 M trifluoroacetic acid hydrolysis and as compared to that of the initial miscanthus sample. This hydrolysis and the following high performance anion exchange chromatography of the released neutral monosaccharides were performed as previously described (Chupin et al, 2020;Harhold et al, 2005).…”

“…Al respecto Guerriero et al (2014), comentan que existe una deposición de celulosa en las paredes celulares de las plantas como un mecanismo secundario de defensa, generando una mayor tolerancia y/o resistencia al estrés externo (Chupin et al, 2020). El contenido de xilano aumenta el endurecimiento de la pared celular como respuesta a factores estresantes abióticos (Hori et al, 2020).…”
