There Are No Communists in Cuba

Abstract: This study explores how Cubans organize their everyday livelihood strategies between the tacit principles of capitalism and socialism. Having conducted four months of ethnographic fieldwork in Cuba, I examine how individuals negotiate the contradictions that unfold within the island's economic system, where competing ideals of free market liberalization and social redistribution collide in discourse and practice. This collision is highlighted through ethnographic vignettes that showcase how Cubans who have gra… Show more

“…where Y is the Young modulus and ν in the Poisson ratio. This holds for contacts between same material but it is possible to generalize to the case of two species [35,38,39]. Direct formulas for γ n and γ t are lacking but it is a common strategy to choose them verifying a posteriori the good agreement with the experimental data [40].…”

“…The parameters used in the simulation are listed in Table 2, where the parameters are taken from literatures and the material databases. [30][31][32][35][36][37][38][39][40][41] Small shear modulus are used in the simulation to reduce the simulation time, and the values have been proven to be suitable for the burdens by the previous literatures [31][32][33][34][35][36][37] and our simulation.…”

“…Most notably, the complex Lagenvin method together with gauge cooling could address full QCD in the deconfined phase [1,2]. Another method based on complexified QCD, the Lefschetz thimbles, are currently applied to QCD-inspired models with few degrees of freedom, but the method is far from being applicable to full lattice QCD [3][4][5].…”
