“…53 In this study, the observed elevation in serum ALT, denotes an active hepatic cell damage 54 ,and hypoalbuminemia in chronic infection occurs simultaneously with the increase in collagen deposition and could be associated with the decrease in albumin mRNA or to malabsorption due to damaged intestinal mucosa resulting from the extrusion of large numbers of eggs. 55,56 A significant depletion in the hepatic content of reduced GSH, which plays an important role in Mice were administered PZQ in the 7th week PI for 2 days and losartan in the 4th and 12th weeks PI for 6 weeks and were killed 10 and 18 weeks PI, respectively. “…A nearly 60% reduction in fibrosis was found two months after BMC therapy compared to saline-treated controls. Reduced fibrosis seems to be a common effect of BMC therapy, being also observed in other models of ischemic heart disease (Orlic et al 2001) as well as in liver disease (Oliveira et al 2008). The production of metalloproteases by stem cells has been previously demonstrated (Higashiyama et al 2007); however, the specific mechanisms by which these cells directly and/or indirectly promote the degradation of fibrosis in Chagas disease remains to be clarified.…”

“…A reduction in liver fibrosis was also demonstrated in the experimice transplanted with purified myelomonocytic cells and bone marrow-derived macrophages (14,136). mental model of hepatectomy and dimetylnitrosamine administration (145,147) and in hepatic fibrosis caused The contribution of bone marrow cells in reducing liver fibrosis has also been investigated with positive by chronic infection by Schistosoma mansoni (89). The correlation of fibrosis reduction and lower levels results achieved in the majority of the studies; however, high levels of liver repopulation by transplanted cells of TGF-β, a cytokine that plays a key role in fibrogenesis, was also demonstrated after cell therapy (31,89).…”
