Abstract: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common form of arrhythmia in the intensive care unit (ICU) and is associated with increased mortality. A total of five types of AF can be distinguished: initially diagnosed, paroxysmal, persistent, long-standing persistent and permanent AF.
