Therapie chronisch obstruktiver Funktionsstörungen der Tuba Eustachii

Abstract: This paper reviews the past and present developments in the treatment of chronic obstructive eustachian tube dysfunction. Alongside tube catheterization and bougie insertion, modern approaches such as laser eustachian tuboplasty and balloon eustachian tuboplasty (BET) are described. In BET, transnasal endoscopic insertion via the pharyngeal ostium places a balloon catheter in the cartilaginous portion of the eustachian tube. This is then dilated to a pressure of 10 bar for 2 min. Up until January 2013, 351 chr… Show more

“…There is persistent improvement in seven out of eight patients (in 87.5% of the cases) followed-up for a minimum of 34 months. This safe method is used for effective management of ETD patients [34]. It produces significant improvement in tympanogram values up to 15 months postoperatively [5].…”

“… 4 , 5 When medical approaches fail, surgical procedures, including ventilation tube insertion, laser tuboplasty, and microdebrider tuboplasty, are usually required. 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 However, the efficacy of these surgical approaches remains uncertain owing to inconsistent diagnostic criteria in previous clinical studies and limited clinical experience. Moreover, surgical treatment may cause surgery-related complications such as purulent infection of the middle ear, airway obstruction, airway prolapse, and permanent tympanic membrane perforation.…”
