Therapeutic prospects of microRNAs in cancer treatment through nanotechnology

Abstract: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) represent a new class of diagnostic and prognostic biomarker as well as new therapeutic targets in cancer therapy. miRNAs are gaining significant interest due to extensive advancements in knowledge since their discovery and, more recently, their translational application as therapeutic moieties and targets in the management of disease. miRNAs used in the treatment of cancer would position them as a new class of emerging therapeutic agents. Indeed, numerous candidate miRNAs have been identifi… Show more

“…Previous studies have shown that the expression of miR‐373 is regulated by CREB in zinc transporter 4‐induced progression of pancreatic cancer (Awasthi et al , 2018). Since microRNAs elicit specific cellular effects (Esteller, 2011), we wanted to understand the role of miR‐373 in our experimental setup.…”

“…MicroRNAs (miRs) are involved in the regulation of gene expression and may potentially serve as new therapeutics in cancer (Awasthi et al , 2018). miR‐373 plays a variety of roles in tumorigenesis and tumor progression.…”

“…Emerging research indicates that only certain types of encapsulated miRNA play a role in cell-cell signaling and others may not. Exosomes, for instance, appear to transport miRNA that promote paracrine communication [375][376][377] and nanotechnology can be used to deliver chemically modified miRNA to cancer cells [378,379].…”

“…Treatment of any cancer aims to remove or destroy the cancerous cells without killing normal cells. The most common traditional methods used for treatment include surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy which can be used either alone or in combination with each other [8] [24]. The most consistent and effective option to treat patients suffering from lung cancer is surgical resection.…”
