Therapeutic prospective of plant-induced silver nanoparticles: application as antimicrobial and anticancer agent

Abstract: Green synthesis approach for nanoparticle is environmental friendly, non-hazardous and the nanoparticles have shown enhanced biocompatibility for application in healthcare. Previous reviews have mentioned about green synthesis methods for nanoparticles and their biological activities. This review not only covers the general information about green synthesis of silver nanoparticles and characterization, but also focused on recent uses of various medicinal and nonmedical plants based AgNPs synthesis and their br… Show more

“…The ROS is disturbing the signal transduction pathways and also enhancing the cellular apoptosis [28]. Previous reports showed that the formation of ROS either inside or outside of the cell may cause damage to the cell membrane [29]. Recent research reported that MT induced cytotoxicity in erythrocytes due to the rising of ROS levels, elevating the level of erythrocyte shrinking and fragmentation [30].…”

“…The overproduction of ROS was disturbing the signal transduction pathways which also leading cellular apoptosis. The production of peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) radicals modifies the trans-membrane potential of mitochondria causing uncoupling of the respiration system [23]. The DWm was confirmed by Rh-123 staining that the HCT-116 cell lines treated with the AL-AuNPs for 24 h revealed reduced green colour emission results in the loss of DWm, which leads to the initiation of apoptosis, whereas the untreated normal control cells had intact mitochondria with normal morphology and emitted an elevated green fluorescence.…”

“…Report from previous studies highlighted that spherical-shaped nanoparticles are more effective than rodlike or hexagonally shaped nanoparticles [55]. Biological activity of AgNPs mostly depends its size and surface area; smaller nanoparticles have larger surface area than those larger ones [56]. In addition, elemental compositions analysis was carried out with EDX, and the three major elements in the AgNPs is represented in Fig.…”
