Therapeutic potential of Hsp27 in neurological diseases

Abstract: Background: Heat shock proteins (Hsps) are widely reported in normal cellular dynamics under stress and nonstress conditions, and parallelly, the studies regarding its role in disease condition are also progressing steadily. The function of Hsps in neurodegenerative disorders is puzzling and not fully understood. This review aims to focus on the role of Hsp27 in normal and diseased conditions and emphasize its therapeutic potential. Hsp27: Hsp27, in particular, has shown to be involved in cell viability and ac… Show more

“…14a ). Notably, sEV/HSP27, m/lEV/HSP27, and EV/HSP27 mixtures significantly increased cell viability compared to untreated cells and are likely an additive effect of naïve EV mitochondrial transfer and anti-apoptotic/cell proliferation effects of HSP27 (115118).…”

“…Phosphorylated Hsp27 can protect the cytoskeleton and provide resistance to apoptotic stimuli under stressed conditions. Moreover, Hsp27 also serves as an antioxidant that lowers the ROS and iron levels by raising intracellular glutathione levels . Overall, PTT has shown particular promise as a potential AD therapy.…”

“…HSP27 expression is affected by stress conditions such as chemotherapy drugs (Ferms et al, 2006;Jego et al, 2013;Jaragh-Alhadad, 2018;Venugopal et al, 2019). Over-expression of HSP27 in cancer cells causes anti-apoptotic mechanism (Arya et al, 2007;Garrido et al, 2006;Paul et al, 2010) and cancer cell survival to lethal levels (Lianos et al, 2015;Vidyasagar et al, 2012) and metastasis (Pavan et al, 2013;Zhao et al, 2012).…”
