Therapeutic effects of Hedyotisdiffusa Willd in a COPD mouse model challenged with LPS and smoke

Abstract: Hedyotis diffusa Willd (HDW) is a constituent of several Chinese medicines used clinically to treat inflammatory diseases, including airway inflammation. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether HDW serves a protective role in suppressing chronic airway inflammation and its underlying mechanisms. A mouse model of chronic smoking was induced via exposure to cigarette smoke (CS) for 30 days, increasing the exposure time for up to 5 min per day and the administration of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Mi… Show more

“…To this end, LPS was applied to treat MRC‐5 cells to construct a cell model of COPD. Much was known that LPS is effective in inducing inflammatory response . This phenomenon was also appended in this study that LPS induced apoptosis and the release of MCP‐1, IL‐6 and TNF‐α in MRC‐5 cells.…”

“…TCM has long been used to treat a variety of diseases, including cancer [ 22 ]. HDW is a natural plant extract, which has been used as a common ingredient in TCM for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, enhancing immunity, antitumor, and other effects [ 23 , 24 ]. With the progress of research, the anticancer effect of HDW has been paid more and more attention [ 25 ].…”

“…COPD is among the leading causes of morbidity and mortality world- as a major cause of this disease (Liu et al, 2018). Numerous scientific reports have employed well-established experimental model of CSinduced COPD in rats, namely CS-induced emphysema to evaluate the effects of potential candidate targets against COPD (Luo et al, 2017).…”
