Background: violence is considered to be a global phenomenon; committing violence significantly impacts individuals physical and psychological states. There are several risk factors for increasing violence, of which personality traits represent the most substantial risk. Objective: the current research aims to examine the association among the ‘big five’ risk factors and involvement in violence among high school students in the north of Iraq. Methods: The sample comprised 468 students, 242 boys, and 226 girls aged 16 to 20. Two self-report instruments were used for data collection. Firstly, we divided the Maudsly Violence Questionnaire into two factors: acceptance of violence and machismo. Secondly, we used the Big Five Inventory, which includes questions on extraversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, consciousness, and openness. Result: the result showed a significant positive correlation between extraversion, neuroticism, and violence involvement. Agreeableness, openness, and consciousness were negatively correlated. In terms of demographic variables, the findings suggest that boys are more likely to be involved in violence than girls. The results indicated that personality traits neuroticism, extraversion, agreeableness, openness, and consciousness predicted violence. Conclusion: personality traits significantly impact individuals’ behaviors that reflect their lives. The potential for violence is a predictor for detecting and preventing violent actions and could be used in many justices and governmental systems.

Application of the Theory of Routine Activities in Criminology to the General Crime Situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A significant number of criminologists, applying the theory of routine activities, believe that a criminal offense is the result of three convergent elements that combine in time and space (a motivated perpetrator, a suitable target, and the absence of adequate protection). When analyzing these three independent factors, custody is usually given a less significant position in this triangle, without any real reason. It is important to point out that the social structure can significantly affect any form of its violation because ordinary citizens can largely protect each other, as well as citizens' property. In the context of this paper, we will consider routine activities in the light of certain daily determining activities, such as education, economic crises, unemployment, mass communication means, migration, family circumstances, and free time, which can be key to explaining the rate of increase or decrease in crime. When all these activities are analyzed through the theory of routine activity, then we can have a complete overview in terms of criminal activity and the exposure to a criminal act of an individual or the social community as a whole.

This paper reviews the assistance of a psychologist expert in the justice bodies to protect minors in Kosovo. Research data on the study of normative acts (laws and international acts) regarding the role of the expert psychologist have been analyzed since from September 1999 until 2019. The purpose of this study is to assess the role of an expert psychologist, conforming to national and international legal norms in the protection of minors at the police, prosecution and court organs, where the analysis of these legal norms has been used over the years. In the case of looking at the protection of minors the expert psychologist is involved in all stages of criminal and civil proceedings before the competent authorities. The results show that the role of the psychologist expert in justice bodies in Kosovo is based on national and international law, but in this highly sensitive work Kosovo psychologist experts must have their own association to represent their requests as good as possible to the competent authorities and for the delegation of the name of the expert psychologist at the request of the judge. Moreover, it has been found that until now the determination of the expert psychologist hired has been made with the will of the judge. This paper contributes to existing scientific literature, especially in the fields of criminology, victimology and forensic psychology. Moreover, this paper is likely to contribute to the work of the Association of Psychological Experts, the Victims' Association and in the work of various minors’ protection associations
