Theoretical shapes of K x‐ray spectra for lead as predicted by MCDF calculations

Abstract: Simulations of the shapes of Pb K x‐ray spectra have been performed for an experimental situation in which single and double L‐ and M‐shell ionization (apart from the single K‐shell ionization) of target atoms occurs. The simulations are based on the results of the calculations of the energies and probabilities of various Pb K x‐ray transitions, done with the multiconfiguration Dirac–Fock (MCDF) method with the inclusion of the transverse (Breit) interaction and quantum electro dynamic (QED) corrections. It ha… Show more

“…The subject of peak shape in EDXRF spectra was poorly represented in the review year with only a single paper, 47 which considered the theoretical peak shape for Pb K spectra. Of particular concern to these authors were satellite lines due to multiple ionizations in Pb and, more particularly, the generation of those effects by light and heavy projectiles at various energies.…”

“…Spin-forbidden electric dipole transitions are of great importance as diagnostics for different astrophysical sources, laboratory-induced fusion plasmas and also in the study of atomic collisions [6]. As the diagnostic analysis of high temperature low density astrophysical and laboratory produced plasmas requires the energies and rates of multiplet lines in the K x-ray spectra arising from the decay of multi-excited ions, it is essential to study the properties of multiply ionized atoms [7][8][9][10][11].…”
