El subgénero de la poesía especulativa ha cobrado importancia en las últimas décadas de la mano de la autora canadiense Margaret Atwood (1939) y sus contribuciones a la literatura anglófona tanto en la lírica como en la ficción. En su primer poemario The Circle Game (1964), la autora presenta un uso meticuloso de la distopía, el motivo de la circularidad y las nociones de espacio y lugar que luego son desarrollados a lo largo de toda su obra literaria. En este sentido, el análisis de los poemas principales en The Circle Game se hace necesario para evidenciar el estilo de Margaret Atwood desde su obra más temprana. De esta manera, se logrará contribuir al estudio de los conceptos arriba mencionados, así como también al análisis de obras menos populares de la autora.
