Background/Aims The impact of a scientific article in its respective field is reflected by its citation count. The purpose of this review was to conduct a citation analysis in order to identify and analyze the top 50 most cited articles published in Dental Traumatology since its inception in order to highlight the contribution of the journal to the field of Dental Traumatology. Methods Elsevier's Scopus was used to search and analyze the 50 most frequently cited scientific papers. After the screening process, two reviewers arranged the articles in a descending order based on their citation counts. Each article was then cross‐matched with Google Scholar. The articles were analyzed, and information including citation counts, citation density, publication year, authorship, contributing institutions and countries, article topic, study design, and keywords was extracted. Results The literature search identified 2421 articles. The citation counts of the 50 selected articles varied from 117 to 580 (Scopus) and 206 to 1130 (Google Scholar). The year in which most top 50 articles were published was 2002 (n = 5). Among 105 authors, the greatest contribution was made by JO Andreasen (n = 12). Most of the articles originated from the United States (n = 12) with the greatest contributions from the University Hospital (Rigshospitalet), Copenhagen, Denmark (n = 6). Original research article was the most frequent study design (n = 34). The majority of the top 50 articles were focused on traumatic dental injuries. Among 131 unique key words, root resorption (n = 6) was the most frequently used. A non‐significant correlation occurred between citation count (correlation coefficient = 0.127, P = .378), citation density (correlation coefficient = 0.654, P = 2.493), and publication age. Conclusions This study identified the top 50 most cited articles published in this journal in the specialty of Dental Traumatology. The publication year of an article was not significantly associated with citation count nor citation density.

Background. This study focused on plotting knowledge structure and exploring research hotspots of retinal vein occlusion (RVO). Methods. In this study, research articles, with subject of RVO, were acquired from PubMed. Bibliographic Item Co-Occurrence Matrix Builder (BICOMB) was used for MeSH terms acquisition, evaluation and high-frequency MeSH term determination. Biclustering analysis and knowledge structure were conducted based on the MeSH term-source article matrix. RVO theme trends were illustrated with social network analysis (SNA), along with strategic diagrams. Results. A total of 3179 articles on RVO were retrieved, and the annual research output increased with time. USA ranked first with the most publications, with Retina as the most prolific journal in RVO research. MeSH terms were characterized into five different genres. As shown by the strategic diagram, the complications of RVO, the etiology of macular edema, as well as the therapeutic use of anti-VEGF, steroids and anti-inflammatory agents were well developed (Quadrant I). In contrast, epidemiology, metabolism and genetics related research on RVO were relatively immature (Quadrant III). Research on surgical treatments of vitrectomy, diagnostic methods and pathology of RVO were centralized but undeveloped (Quadrant IV). The SNA results was exhibited by the centrality chart, on which the node position was represented by the centrality values. Conclusions. By providing a bibliometric research, the overall RVO research trends could be revealed based on the five categories identified by this study. The mathematical bibliometric study could shed light on new perspectives for researchers. Background Retinal vein occlusion (RVO) ranks the second most common cause of retinal vascular disease [1]. Central (CRVO), hemiretinal (HRVO) and branch (BRVO) vein occlusion are the three major categories of RVO based on the occlusion site. Patient symptoms may generally include, depending on the classification of RVO, blurry or missing vision, floating dots or lines, and defective visual field. The main complications of CRVO include the macular edema formation, neovascularization, neovascular glaucoma, and vitreous hemorrhage, while complications of BRVO depend more on the vessel occluded [2]. Background: The h-index has its popularity in the global scientific community. Despite the h-index being used as an indicator of individual research achievement (IRA), two main disadvantages have not been solved: (1) all coauthors contributing equally to article bylines and (2) the integer nature of the h-index making it difficult to differentiate the IRAs among entities. This article evaluated the most cited authors, institutes, and states in United States in ophthalmology in recent ten years using a proposed hx-index.Methods: Authors who worked for departments of ophthalmology in United States were selected for identifying their IRAs in Pubmed Central(PMC) since 2010. Using the PubMed search engine, we conducted an observational study of citation analyses in affiliated research institutes and states of all authors who worked for departments of ophthalmology since 2010. A total of 18,289 published articles from 46,121 authors related to departments of ophthalmology from 50 states were analyzed. The bootstrapping method was applied with an estimated 95% confidence interval (CI) to distinguish the differences in IRAs among states and institutes. The x-index and the Kano model were complemental to the h-index for identifying the group IRA characteristics and rankings. A pyramid plot was used to illustrate the importance of the author-weighted scheme(AWS) used for evaluating IRAs in academics. The hx-index combined both advantages of h-/x-index was proposed to assess IRAs for each facility. A significant difference was identified by observing two bands of estimated 95% CIs that were not overlapped. Furthermore, we drew a choropleth map on Google Maps to visualize the differences of IRA among states.Results: There is a significant rise over time in the number of publications. The top-ranking states in hx-index based on publications and citations were Massachusetts(42.28),California(39.24), and Massachusetts(42.28). If only the top 100 authors were included for calculating the median hx-index, the top three would be California(6.45), Massachusetts(3.97). and New York(3.07) with no significant difference found among these three using the bootstrapping method. The institute and author with the highest hx-index were Harvard Medical School(Massachusetts) and Felipe A Medeiros (California), respectively. We demonstrated that Dr. Medeiros from California published 213 articles in PMC and used the example to elucidate the importance of AWS when IRAs were assessed. Conclusions: With an overall increase in publications in the field of ophthalmology, IRAs assessed by these (1) hx-index, (2)the bootstrapping method, and (3) AWS should be emphasized and promoted more in the future.
