“…When Biswas & Schubert (1967) reported that ZrsIr 3, HfsIr 3 and ZrsPt3 crystallize with the MnsSi 3 type, it was the first time that this type was observed with compounds where both components are transition elements. Since then the same type has also been found with a series of rare-earth-metal-transition-metal alloys (Raman & Ghassem, 1973;Iandelli & Palenzona, 1975;Le Roy, Moreau, Paccard & Parthr, 1978;Iandelli & Palenzona, 1982;Le Roy, Moreau & Paccard, 1982). The axial ratios c/a for these rare-earth compounds are rather high, as compared with those measured for the transition-metal silicides and homologues, whereas those calculated for the isotypic Zr and Hf alloys with Ir and Pt are in comparison lower.…”

“…The theoretical CrB cell data for PrPt and NdPt based on the FeB data published by Dwight, Conner & Downey (1965) Compounds with the composition R2T, except Yb2Pt (Iandelli & Palenzona, 1975), have not yet been found. For compounds of this composition which are built up exclusively of trigonal prisms, the trigonal-prism linkage coefficient has to be three (Parth+ & Moreau, 1977).…”

“…We report in this paper the structure types and lattice parameters of some of the phases which have been identified. No phase diagram of any R-Pt system was found in the literature except for Yb (Iandelli & Palenzona, 1975).…”

“…In the course of a review of the crystal structures of alloys containing rare-earth elements (and Y) and late transition elements (Parth6 & Moreau, 1977;Le Roy, Moreau, Paccard & Parth6, 1978) it became evident that structural studies of rare-earth (R) rich alloys formed in the systems R-Ir and R-Pt were by no means complete. The only information found on such compounds was for La-Ir (Dmitrieva, Vorobev, 0567-7408/79/061437-03501.00 Varekha, Domashev & Gusynin, 1974), Ce-Ir (Dmitrieva et al, 1973), Yb-Ir (Iandelli & Palenzona, 1976), Nd-Pt, Er-Pt (Moffatt, 1978) and Yb-Pt (Iandelli & Palenzona, 1975). We report here the results of our investigations on other compounds belonging to these systems.…”
