Peace education is the basis for global peace and a prerequisite for attaining sustainable development and global goals. Considering the widespread physical and structural violence and destructive protests across South African higher education, it is crucial to embrace peace education to deal with violence in all its forms. This article explores the need for peace education in the South African higher education curriculum. A qualitative critical review of the literature reveals widespread gender-based violence, sexual exploitation, destructive student protests at and the militarisation of universities through military force to quell violent student protests nationwide in South Africa. Lack of peace skills indicates that both lecturers, university management and students are in need peace education. Peace education must be incorporated in South African higher education. As part of a model for it, this article recommends the establishment of peace as a stand-alone subject, extra-curricular activities for peace and storytelling to deliver peace education and inculcate a culture of peace in both educators and students. More so, there is a need to embrace the pedagogy of peace education and establish institutes for peace and conflict resolution at every higher education institution in South Africa.

This study employs bibliometric methods to measure the productivity of authors, organizations, and countries engaged in research on nonviolence according to preferred channels for dissemination, composition of collaborative teams, and overall research performance based on data drawn from the Elsevier Scopus database. The researchers identify three major developmental stages of nonviolence research over the course of three decades (1991–2021) and found that annual research productivity in nonviolence research has grown at a slow pace in stage 1 (1991–2000), at a moderate pace in stage 2 (2001–2010), and at a fast pace in stage 3 (2011–2021). Based on the keyword frequency and their co‐occurrence relationships, three major topical theme clusters emerged; the first theme cluster relates to religion and spirituality, the second theme cluster relates to nonviolence, peace, and conflict, and the third theme cluster relates to political tactics, law, and social movements. Authorship patterns in nonviolence research show a single authorship trend as most of the publications have been published by single authors (71.57%).

The research aims to analyze publications on peaceable school programs for conflict resolution in primary schools using VOSviewer with the publish or perish application. This research has been published in various publications over ten years (2018 to 2023). Based on these criteria, 993 articles were found that were relevant to the research. The results of this research found that research on peaceable school programs for conflict resolution in primary schools can be divided into three areas, namely the term Peace Resolution, conflict resolution skills, and primary schools. This study shows that peaceable school programs for conflict resolution in primary schools in 2018 was lower than in 2019. because this year there was an increase in publications. Publications from 2019 to 2023 have decreased significantly each year. Research in 2019 achieved the publication of 208 articles. research in 2020 achieved the publication of 202 articles. In 2019-2020, the number of publications was still more than 200 articles. However, in 2021-2022 there has been a decline, because the number of publications is in position 100. In 2021 there are 177 articles and in 2022 there are 135 articles. The decline will continue until 2023, reaching 80 articles. Data shows that the popularity of school peaceable research programs for conflict resolution in primary schools can be said to be decreasing. Through VOSviewer, this research analyzes many published articles related to this topic. The impact of this review will be a reference for conducting further research on this topic in the future.
