IntroduçãoParte da reflexão deste artigo refere-se a como, no Candomblé, a eficácia de objetos e elementos naturais é mobilizada durante gestos rituais que ganham, assim, um papel importante na comunicação de evocações simbólicas, podendo constituir as condições pragmáticas mínimas para a transmissão de símbolos inerentes ao culto. Como afirma Severi, as memórias sociais podem ser representadas através da narração de uma série de histórias; todavia, é no âmbito dos rituais que certas imagens são construídas de modo complexo, e elas, em vez de representar, fazem "presentes" realidades de uma forma irrefutável e dificilmente comunicáveis fora desses mesmos contextos rituais (Severi 2000:148). No caso do Candomblé da Bahia 1 , objeto desta pesquisa, certos gestos e atos rituais, rotuláveis como "mágico-religiosos" pela eficá-cia implícita, são, de fato, capazes de comunicar "presenças" e transmitir memórias sociais. Para os adeptos do Candomblé, os gestos e os atos eficazes (interditos ou prescritos) associados a relações de culto são inúmeros; portanto, eventos insólitos (ou percebidos como tais) podem ser considerados reveladores de agências invisíveis mobilizadas por gestos humanos 2 . Este trabalho propõe-se ensaiar caminhos de análise de atos e gestos que, não atendendo às metas utilitárias, implicam conteúdos semânticos não totalmente compreensíveis, pois aludem a representações contraintuitivas 3 sobre objetos e elementos,
