The Wood‐framed With Sheathing Buildings ‐ Alternative for Housing Construction

Abstract: Numerical model of the wood‐framed with sheathing structure and selected results of experimental tests are presented in the paper. Wall and floor diaphragms as the three‐dimensional composite structure are modeled applying plane shell elements representing framing and sheathing and beam element describing the fasteners. Experimental tests were conducted on typically disposed the wood‐framed wall and floor diaphragms in residential housing in Poland. Associated tests of materials and connections and their resul… Show more

“…The contribution of the paper is evaluation on the base of tests on natural scale building how the reliably used analytical models of varying precision (1D, 2D, 3D) are describing static behaviour of this type building structure. In the presented document has been used author's numerical model 3D of analysis, which was earlier described in the Journal of Civil Engineering and Management (Malesza, Miedzialowski 2006). That model allows for analysis of particular structure assemblies including connections and fasteners as well as it leads to assign the mostly stressed structural elements also in the post elastic range.…”

“…Two prevailing prefabrication technologies, 2D plain large panels and 3D modular systems [16][17][18], are prominent in constructing wood-framed buildings. These elements offer excellent thermal performance [19].…”

“…The construction industry is shifting toward sustainable practices, notably in woodframed buildings. Prefabricated wood-framed houses have gained traction due to benefits such as time and cost savings, rhythmic production, and enhanced structural reliability [17,28]. The current trends in wood-framed building construction rely on industrially constructed component units, with mass timber, particularly cross-laminated timber, as a standout choice for multifamily residential and commercial multi-story buildings (Figures 2 and 3) [21].…”
