The windows for kinetically mixed Z′-mediated dark matter and the galactic center gamma ray excess

Abstract: One of the simplest hidden sectors with signatures in the visible sector is fermionic dark matter χ coupled to a Z gauge boson that has purely kinetic mixing with the standard model hypercharge. We consider the combined constraints from relic density, direct detection and collider experiments on such models in which the dark matter is either a Dirac or a Majorana fermion. We point out sensitivity to details of the UV completion for the Majorana model. For kinetic mixing parameter ≤ 0.01, only relic density and… Show more

“…It is important to first notice that the Z gauge boson arising from the L µ − L τ local symmetry dictates a dark matter phenomenology rather different from other realizations of a "dark Z portal" (see e.g. [67][68][69][70][71][72][73][74][75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83][84]). For example, the dark matter pair annihilation exclusively yields muon, tau, and neutrino pairs, as well as Z boson pairs, if kinematically allowed (i.e.…”

“…For a more detailed discussion of the resulting gamma-ray spectrum in a similar scenario, see [29]. Other models where the gamma-ray signal originates from annihilations in a hidden sector have been previously considered in [30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37].…”

“…[22] performed a similar analysis to ours with an older data, without computing indirect DM detection and g-2 bounds, and assumed Z − up quarks and Z − down quarks to be the same, whereas in Ref. [23] the kinetic mixing window has been explored. In Ref.…”
