Abstract:Machine tools are built based on cast-iron bodies. Cast iron well dumps down vibrations and is dimensionally stable. Therefore, many conventional machine tools are modernized and modified into CNC machine tools based on the seasoned old bodies of those machine tools. Nevertheless, CNC machine tools are also manufactured based on polymer concrete, which vibration damping ability is even better. On the other hand, attempts made in the past by leading machine tool manufacturers to use welded frames in CNC machine… Show more

“…Aside from professional CNC machine tools used in many branches of industry [1,2], the market of amateur solutions of such machine tools is intensively developing. For amateur CNC machine tools, their main distinguishing feature is a low manufacturing cost.…”
CNC machine tools are currently predominating in the machine-building industry. Generally, these machine tools are equipped with control systems supplied by the world's leading manufacturers, such as Siemens, Fanuc or HeidenHein, and are very expensive. In parallel, many cheap amateur and semi-professional CNC machine tool solutions are being developed. Below, a CNC milling machine of welded construction is described, which is intended to be, at the same time, a test stand. The design of the milling machine is based on steel closed sections of a large cross-section and a big wall thickness. This has allowed a rigid frame structure to be obtained. To obtain high displacement accuracy, high-accuracy profiled rail slideways have been used, along which pre-stressed linear ball bearings move. The machine tool has been furnished with a fourth numerically controlled axis, which is demountable.

“…Dedicated measurement and post processing software integrated with scan3D UNIVERSE is a complex solution which enables end user to prepare 3D documentation process and perform virtual research such as cuts or modeling of missed parts of the scanned object. Multiple export formats as well as: standard raw data format allows the data to be used in all popular CAD or 3D graphical software such as: Maya, ZBrush or 3Dmax, SolidWorks [6]. User can easily share the results with other researchers thanks to a free SMARTTECH3Dmeasure Viewer software [23].…”

A rapid and continuous development of the machinery and equipment manufacturing capabilities is currently going on. Using CAx programs, complex elements can be made in a straightforward and very fast manner. The creation and use of spatial scanners, photogrammetric methods and spatial modelling is intensively developing, too. A complete object can be produced without the help of tactile methods, using professional 3D scanners, scanners of one's own construction, a camera, or even a cell phone with an in-built camera. The article has described the capabilities of a 3D scanner, verified its accuracy, and has also discussed the capabilities of photogrammetric methods to reconstruct machine parts.
“…The major desired factor which affected on structure and material of machine tools' properties are high structural stiffness, excellent damping, and low thermal sensitivity [2]. Therefore, the produced material is expected to be ideal to develop alternative materials for machine tools structures with excellent flexible operation performance [3], [4]High productivity, and low cost [5]-. In Egypt, large quantities of coarse granite wastes are produced annually during the quarrying operations of granite rocks. This waste represents a potentially useful source of material for a variety of applications such as a filler material in epoxy granite composite material. In this work a new eco-friendly composite material studied as a substitute for machine tools traditional materials, like cast iron, to produce better efficiency with lower cost. This study aims to investigate the mechanical properties of granite epoxy composite by using the local epoxy (kemapoxy 150) and the granite residues in the Egyptian quarries. The investigated processing variable was epoxy content, and the mechanical characterization ware carried out by compressive and flexural tests according to the ASTM standard method B. Commercially available, Aswan red granite was procured, crushed, and sieved to three size ranges from 0.150 to 8 mm, respectively. Epoxy ratios of 80:20, 85:15 have been used with granite aggregate size mix with small, medium, and coarse size proportions of 50:25:25 respectively for preparing the specimens with granite granular size range (0.150-8) mm. The results show that Epoxy granite composite with granite to epoxy ratio of 80:20% wt. induced the highest compressive strength (72.15 MPa) while the composite with the ratio of 85:15% wt. induced the highest flexural strength (20.1 MPa). Epoxy granite composite show superior results with respect to cement concrete, polyester concrete, and natural granite.
