“…Two previous studies have investigated health states in Sweden using the EQ‐5D [16,30]. Björk and Narinder in 1999 [31] found 32 health states represented, and Burström et al. in 2001 [16] found 75, compared with the 54 observed in the present study.…”

“…Because there are no Swedish TTO or SG preference values for EQ‐5D health states, it was necessary to find another set of population preference values, e.g., Swedish preference values elicited by other methods [30] or non‐Swedish values derived from the same method (the EQ‐5D) [19]. Although the Swedish preference values published in 1999 by Björk and Norinder [31] are closest to the ones required by the methodology used in the present study, they could not be used because the model was published without coefficients for the EQ‐5D health states. It was decided to give priority to methodological purity rather than to homogeneity of origin and to apply values derived using the EQ‐5D but from a different population.…”

“…This questionnaire is widely used in many countries and different patient groups, as well as in population studies (12, 19). It has been validated and tested for Swedish conditions in cooperation with the EuroQolGroup formatted in 1987 where Sweden was one of the original participating seven centres in five countries (12, 20, 21).…”

“…In the EQ-5D self classifier the respondents classified their own health status in five aspects – mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression into one of three levels – no problems, moderate problems and severe problems [14,15]. Each obtained individual health state was then given an index value (0–1) based on a method described by Dolan [16].…”
