The web from a complex adaptive systems perspective

Abstract: The web continues to grow at a phenomenal rate, and the amount of information on the web is overwhelming. Finding the relevant information remains a big challenge. Due to its wide distribution, its openness and high dynamics, the web is a complex system, for which we have to imagine mechanisms of content maintaining, filtering and organizing that are able to deal with its evolving dynamics and distribution. Integrating mechanisms of self-organization of the web content is an attractive perspective, to match wi… Show more

“…Wireless sensor networks threads were studied in normal client server architectures [2] and multi agents approaches were discussed in [4] [8] [9]. The complexity and adaptation in multi agents systems were extensively studied in Web systems [10]. However in [11] they discussed the complexity in data collection, data aggregation and data selection over the tree model in which the sink node which is the first level in the tree is connected with two nodes to form the second level and so on.…”

“…However Data collection, data aggregation, processing the gathered information, time complexity, messages complexity and energy cost complexity are the most complex elements in WSN [10]. Different types of components and large number of nodes make the complexity in systems like WSN.…”

“…In previous work, we presented the Web from a complex adaptive systems perspective [1], showing that the web exhibits the properties and characteristics of these systems. Emergent properties in the evolution of the web and its selforganizational nature are largely due to the usage, which in turn is largely affected by new emergent technologies.…”

“…Finding the relevant information remains a big challenge. From the perspective of CAS, a model and the corresponding prototype system that address the dynamic Web content organization are proposed in [6]. Based on the introduction to the core ideas of CAS theory, the complex adaptive features of Wikipedia is described, and the order of Wikipedia is analyzed in [1].…”
