“…By comparing cryopreservation techniques with fresh osteochondral allograft, it was found that cryopreservation resulted in less immunologic antigenicity but also marked degeneration of the cartilages matrix and chondrocyte viability. In 1985 study by Czitrom et al, found that chondrocyte viability and fresh osteochondral allograft ranged from 69% to 99% when assessed in culture media from biopsy specimens by S04 and 3H-cytidine auto radiography and grafts 1-6 years after implantation [54]. One six-year graft had only 37% chondrocyte viability but they were actively producing proteogylcans.…”
